Stowe Mountain
Situated on Mt. Mansfield, Stowe Mountain in Vermont has some of the steepest terrain in the East, including the "Front Four" trails: National, Goat, Starr and Liftline. A challenging resort to say the least, Stowe also has enough to keep families and beginners occupied as well. Glades, mogul trails and steeps are all here.
Stowe is also one of the best resorts in the East, featuring fantastic facilities and luxurious ski-in ski-out lodging options, and a wide range of food options. Believe it or not, there are lodging options for just about any price range, too – making it a top winter destination in New England.
The ski season in Vermont typically runs from early November until mid to late May. The ski season here is generally a month ahead of other ski resorts located in states below Vermont, like New York or Pennsylvania. There is snowmaking on some of the mountain, but the front four don't have it – so access to them can be highly weather dependent (which is becoming quite the challenge for most East ski resorts).

DID YOU KNOW?
At Parks & Trips, we've created a proprietary Difficulty Score that attempts to show how difficult a particular ski slope is. We get to this number by combining a number of metrics for each resort and comparing them to its peers. Most of the score is based off the amount of easy-intermediate-expert slopes by acreage and the maximum vertical drop of the overall resort, but also includes a few lesser-used metrics as well.
Our algorithm compares each resort’s metrics with all others in North America, then assigns each a Difficulty Score, which we use to rank them accordingly. Resorts with a lower score are easier to ski than those with a higher one. However, a high score does not mean that the resort does not have any easy slopes, or vice versa. This is just an overall score given to the resort based on all its metrics grouped together.
