Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is an Atlantic coast recreation area, primarily on Maine’s Mount Desert Island. Its landscape is marked by woodland, rocky beaches and glacier-scoured granite peaks such as Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the United States’ East Coast.
Acadia’s boundary is unlike any other National Park. It extends its reach over half of the Mount Desert Island of which it occupies. The reason for this is that it was created from donated parcels.
