A List of all US Historic National Parks
National Historic Site (NHS) is a designation for an officially recognized area of national historic significance in the United States. A site with this designation usually contains a single historical feature directly associated with its subject. For example, Lincoln’s Home (pictured).
A related, but separate designation, is the National Historical Park (NHP). It is an area that generally extends beyond single properties or buildings, and its resources include a mix of historic and other significant natural features.
There are 61 national historic sites, and 84 national historic parks. Most are managed by the National Park Service (NPS). Nine others are affiliated with the NPS, but not directly managed by it. Two are managed by the U.S. Forest Service, which is an unrelated government department.
