Redwood National Park
Redwood National Park stretches 40 miles along the Pacific Coastline in Northern California. The massive coastal redwoods, or Sequoia sempervirens, grow along the state’s rugged north coast. This area is home to the National park along with numerous state parks such as Prairie Creek, Del Norte and Jedediah Smith.
A state park that is usually not included with these three is Humboldt Redwoods State Park. It is about 40 minutes south of Eureka, CA, and has some of the best trails (and trees) in the area. Do not miss this park as well!
This park is free to get into, and makes a perfect companion park to visit along with Crater Lake or Lassen Volcanic.
Places to Stay When Visiting
Anywhere along the 40 miles of coastline is a great place to stay. Since the park is a mix of national and state parks, there are no official lodges inside park boundaries, but there are dozens of towns with hotels, Airbnbs, VRBO rentals or resorts. A few of the best places to look for lodging accommodations are:
- Arcata, CA
- Crescent City, CA
- Requa, CA
- Klamath, CA
- Orick, CA
- Trinidad, CA
- Eureka, CA
Eureka is the largest city of those, and in a pretty good central location, especially if your next stop is San Francisco. Crescent City also has a ton of great options and allows you to visit all the state and national parks very easily.
